Painful Truth

Life asked Death, “Why do people love me and hate you?” Death replied, “Because you are a beautiful lie and I’m the painful truth.”

As an artist, I paint in reflection of what I feel-both good and bad. This piece “Painful Truth” is in reflection of the daily battles that I climb with adenomyosis (a condition in which endometrial tissue exists within and grows into the uterine wall). As I get older the pain gets worse; the fusion of my insides causes so much of the pain, the blood, the clots, the anemia, and the reality that I will not be able to bare a child-it is all painful. This painting is very personal but it is also how I heal; the lavender crossed upon the womxn’s heart symbolises the luck and fortune within, and that despite the pain (the red gloved blanket incasing her) she will over come.

“Painful Truth”, gouache and pencil on Bristol vellum, tattered and edges burned, in 11”x14” floating frame.
